Marco Rubio Rips Cuba Apologist Tom Harkin

Marco Rubio Rips Cuba Apologist Tom Harkin

American leftists, who get indignant if you accuse them of being communists or communist sympathizers, sure seem to praise communists whenever and wherever they can find them. No matter what the carnage or the misery of the people of a nation, such as Cuba, the Left can’t help but extol the virtues of a despot such as Fidel Castro. Castro brutalized his own citizenry, suppressed opposition by jailing or killing any rebels, and made life a living nightmare all the way around. From Michael Moore to the Congressional Black Caucus to Ozzie Guillen (manager of the Miami Marlins), our friends on the Left find it suitable to heap praise on communist thugs like Fidel Castro. The latest example is retiring Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA), who recently took a trip to Cuba and said: “Their life expectancy is now greater than ours. It’s interesting—their public health system is quite remarkable.” On Monday, Harkin took to the floor of the United States Senate to sing Cuba’s praises. Fortunately, Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL),...

The Constitution Made Me Do It

The Constitution Made Me Do It

Dear Senators and Congressmen: Every day you are besieged to act on behalf “of, by and for” constituents and non-constituents, government and non-government organizations, victims and sympathizers, legal and illegal aliens, the media, and every other group imaginable. Outside the beltway, these lobbyists are known as special interest groups, because they have special interests. They all want you to do something special, either for themselves or for someone else. There is enormous pressure on you to provide for special interests. You weigh the costs versus benefits of each proposal.  You weigh the cost versus benefits of supporting each bill, and consult with your advisers on the identity politics. Many of the requests seem reasonable – there’s always a sympathetic victim of something, somewhere, a potential vote. But there’s trouble ahead because, at some point, you’ll run out of other peoples’ money. So, what to do? You’re not there to grant wishes, like the genie of the lamp. But if you say “No,” then how can you arm yourself against the inevitable epithets...

My Contribution To The Black Community

My Contribution To The Black Community

For the record, contrary to the misleading image of American Blacks marketed by the liberal mainstream, I state the following: I’m NOT a pro-crime activist, so don ‘t ask me to join the latest hand wringing over the next Black thug to buy the farm. Innocent victims, however, are another matter. Security:  personal, communal and cultural, is my sector of the civil rights movement. I don’t mentor nor invite Black boys and men old enough to know better to figuratively sit on my lap (ugh!) and whine about how unfair society is for actually holding them responsible for very real crime. Black thugs, whom I’ve un-affectionately labeled, “chocolate Klansmen,” are NOT my brothers. Nor are they “political prisoners,” nor anything I remotely relate to. My contribution to the Black community is securing it against the demon seed in our midst, without apology nor hesitation. I can’t join the charade of prioritizing occasional violence and disrespect committed by others as totally trumping a daily tide of fratricide and filth. I refuse...

On Liberal Christians

On Liberal Christians

Is there such a thing as a “liberal Christian?” A question like that may sound like a joke, but it is quite serious, with profound implications for millions of professed Christians. Is it possible to be both Christian and a liberal/progressive? Let’s talk a bit about basic theology. Jesus came to Earth for one reason only: to give us a way out of eternal condemnation. God knew that the way He had his people atone for their sins, through endless animal sacrifice, would never cut it in the end. People sinned too much and had finite resources and patience for the sacrifices. So Jesus, through his sacrifice, created a permanent way through which man could be saved. Not only that, but the route to salvation was simpler, through faith alone (though no easier for it). Without that ultimate sacrifice, the Christian faith has no meaning and no foundation. This is why devout Christians are always talking about the Bible and faith in Christ. It is why they constantly exhort...
