Morality vs. The Norway Shooter Sentencing

Morality vs. The Norway Shooter Sentencing

This morning, Ed Morrisey reported on the sentencing of Anders Brevik, the Norwegian who set off a bomb at a government building, then proceeded to murder 77 people on a retreat. We all know that Norway doesn’t believe in capital punishment, so it’s pretty obvious that they would put him away for life, right? Wrong. The judge gave Brevik a maximum sentence of 21 years in prison or 99.5 days per victim. As Ed speculates, it will likely be less than that. Hugh would probably get on my case for listening to too much Dennis Prager, but I can’t help festooning over the moral tragedy this story indicates. The sentencing brings two moral questions to my mind. How does this give justice and closure to the families of the 77 lives this man took? And how does this make a statement to the people of Norway that this behavior is evil? To answer the first question, I will state the obvious: there will be no justice done for the murders of...

Dr. Horton – Christianity vs. Islam

Dr. Horton – Christianity vs. Islam

Dr. Michael Horton does a masterful job of explaining the philosophical differences between Christianity and Islam. I think the best part, though, is his insights into how we can relate to them. How can we love them? I would encourage all to read his article “Christ & Islam“. This video is part 1 of 3 and the rest can be found at The Gospel...

We Can See Restoration

We Can See Restoration

In my first post I stated that one of the reasons we created Tribble News is we believe that our nation can get be saved. We can turn it around. While I don’t think political action is in vain, I also don’t believe that will be the avenue from which we see redemption. In this light I want to share with you a scripture that has been on my heart. 2 Chronicles 7:14 …if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. While I am not one to claim God’s promises to Israel for the Church at large, I believe that this principle transcends Israel and the Church. If we humble ourselves, turn from our sin, and pray, we will see restoration. I take comfort in knowing that there is forgiveness for my country, but it starts with me and...

10th Commandment vs 99%

10th Commandment vs 99%

In the chambers of the Supreme Court of the United States, previous serious Americans have placed the Ten Commandments. They are there both to memorialize one of the first set of codified laws and to recognize that our freedoms are a gift from our Creator. Although the King James language, for some, seems to set these laws apart from our present day life, it is clear that they are a rock solid foundation for people to live together. Unfortunately, living by the Commandments is more difficult than displaying them. Perhaps that is a reason why many on the Left are doing all they can to remove the Ten Commandments from public view. In the King James translation, in Genesis 20:17, the 10th Commandment reads “Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s.” The point is that “coveting” is destructive to both the individual and society....

Donate to Major Dave Gray’s Family

Donate to Major Dave Gray’s Family

Hugh Hewitt posted on his blog and reported on his show today about the loss of Air Force Major Dave Gray. Dave was a patriot and a Christian. I’m quoting Hugh’s blog post below. Please donate to his family. Last week Brad Dayspring joined me on air to talk about his good friend Army Major Thomas Kennedy, who was killed in a Taliban suicide bomber attack on August 8, leaving a beautiful wife and darling 2-year old twins behind.  This audience along hundreds of other Americans responded with generosity to a fund to help benefit his family. Now I have the details on Air Force Major Dave Gray, who was killed in the same attack.  Reading about this extraordinary warrior who left behind a beautiful wife and three children is of course an occasion for sorrow, but the words of tribute to him are inspiring. Major Gray was a devout Christian and a patriot, and a fund has been established to help his family which you can contribute to...
