Expert at West Point Think Tank Warns of the “Violent Far-Right”

Expert at West Point Think Tank Warns of the “Violent Far-Right”

West Point has a fine and storied tradition: President Thomas Jefferson signed legislation establishing the military academy in 1802.    The same Thomas Jefferson who often repeated the John Bradshaw quote: Rebellion to tyrants is obedience to God. And the same Thomas Jefferson who wrote: When injustice becomes law, resistance becomes duty. West Point created the Combating Terrorism Center after the events of 9/11, in an effort to prepare cadets for the new and dangerous environment of suicidal enemies and thwart future attacks. Sounds good and noble, and in the context of West Point should be well-founded. However, Dr. Arie Perliger, one of the Center’s experts, published a study in November titled Challengers from the Sidelines: Understanding America’s Violent Far-Right. There is something tremendously unsettling about seeing the words “America’s Violent Far-Right” in the title. In Challengers, Perliger attempts to sideline West Point’s time-honored motto: Duty, Honor, Country. Dr. Perliger’s bio boasts, “…In the past decade Dr. Perliger has studied extensively issues related to Terrorism and Political Violence, Politics of Security, Politics of the...

Review: Laserlyte Trigger Tyme pistol and Laser Trainer

Review: Laserlyte Trigger Tyme pistol and Laser Trainer

If you are like a lot of suburban or urban gun-owners, you know that getting to the range for practice can be a chore.  Your busy life sometimes makes it difficult. And until recently, ammunition prices have discouraged you even further.  But you know you need to practice basic firearm fundamentals like muzzle discipline, grip, presentation, sight-alignment, trigger-squeeze, and training your dominant eye. Fortunately, you can do that in the comfort of your own home without frightening your neighbors with the sounds of gunfire and the sight of muzzle flashes. Enter the LaserLyte Trigger Tyme Training Pistol (TTTP). LaserLyte makes a full line of training aids for many different firearms.  But let’s start with something really basic.  The TTTP costs a measly $40. It’s about the size of a Glock 19 or similar striker-fired pistol.  If you have smaller hands or prefer training with a compact pistol, LaserLyte makes a compact model as well. The beauty of this training pistol is that, unlike other “blue gun” training aids, this...

CLA Radio 12/13/13: 2013 Passings

CLA Radio 12/13/13: 2013 Passings

The next ConservativeLA Radio show (on Duane FM in the Hughniverse, Friday, 12/13, 7:00 Pacific/10:00 Eastern) will pay tribute to musicians who have exited the proverbial mortal coil in 2013. Re the set list below, some of the folks in question were sidemen; they are listed parenthetically where applicable. The list is not meant to be exhaustive, so some who passed on this year may not be included in the show, but I squeezed in as many as I could–and no doubt a few folks you’ve never heard of. One show note: Careful listeners will notice a logical flaw somewhere in the show. The first person to guess correctly (in chat) the specific flaw I have in mind will win something cool (TBA)! Hope you can stop by and listen, and join us in chat! Spoiler set list: Audio Mash-up: Lies (JJ Cale) Ten Years After: Woodchoppers Ball (Alvin Lee) George Jones: Don’t Stop The Music Johnny Smith: Walk, Don’t Run! This Nation, Under God

This Nation, Under God

“Under God” – two little words, redacted by our Commander In Chief from his recitation of one of the greatest speeches in American history – Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address. President Lincoln’s message is strikingly succinct and profound. It is both timely and timeless. It bookends our Declaration of Independence – “that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights” – with its fulfillment in Liberty, paid for by the blood and treasure of the Civil War. It is often said that there are no atheists in foxholes. For Lincoln, the White House was a foxhole, and he was in that fight with his men. Unlike Obama, Lincoln could say with authority that his was “my” military. For men such as this, Divine Providence was an essential component of strength. To what higher authority can a President otherwise appeal for strength, wisdom and guidance? Unlike Obama, Lincoln would have to wait for days or weeks to learn the fortunes of war. Meanwhile, long nights...
