CLA Radio 02/13/15: New Retro Wrecks

Posted by on Feb 13, 2015 in Conservative LA Radio, For Tribbles, Radio | 0 comments

The next ConservativeLA Radio show (on Duane FM in the Hughniverse, Friday, 02/13/15, 7:00 Pacific/10:00 Eastern) will be a two-part show. The first hour will consist of what I’ll call New Retro–newer artists who, for the most part, harken back to old school Country and the like. With the exception of Big Sandy & The Fly-Rite Trio (a favorite of David Burge AKA Iowahawkblog), the bands come from these two articles by Nicholas Pell: 10 Country Artists You Should Be Listening To 10 More Country Artists You Need to Listen To The second hour will be songs about wrecks and crashes, with an emphasis on train wrecks. Hence the...

Expert at West Point Think Tank Warns of the “Violent Far-Right”

Posted by on Feb 11, 2015 in Military, Politics, Uncategorized | 0 comments

West Point has a fine and storied tradition: President Thomas Jefferson signed legislation establishing the military academy in 1802.    The same Thomas Jefferson who often repeated the John Bradshaw quote: Rebellion to tyrants is obedience to God. And the same Thomas Jefferson who wrote: When injustice becomes law, resistance becomes duty. West Point created the Combating Terrorism Center after the events of 9/11, in an effort to prepare cadets for the new and dangerous environment of suicidal enemies and thwart future attacks. Sounds good and noble, and in the context of West Point should be well-founded. However, Dr. Arie Perliger, one of the Center’s experts, published a study in November...

Hope you can stop by and listen, and join us in chat! Spoiler set list: Rolling Stones: Country Honk Kurt Weill: Alabama Song The Who: The Real Me Joe Pass: Days of Wine and Roses Tom Waits: Jockey Full of Bourbon Tex Williams: Smoke! Smoke! Smoke! CLA Radio 01/23/15: 2014 Americana

Posted by on Jan 23, 2015 in Conservative LA Radio, For Tribbles, Radio | 0 comments

The next ConservativeLA Radio show (on Duane FM in the Hughniverse, Friday night, 01/23/15, 7:00 Pacific/10:00 Eastern) will concern itself with 2014 Americana. There will be a bit of overlap vis. September’s “New Americana” show, but not much. About half of the show will consist of Chris Thile and Edgar Meyer’s Bass & Mandolin, which is utterly magnificent, at least in my estimation. Hope you can stop by, listen to the show, and join us in chat. Spotify list here (minus my narratives), so non-Tribbles won’t feel completely left out. Lee Ann Womack: Prelude, Fly Rodney Crowell: God I’m Missing You Chris Thile & Edgar Meyer: Which Only One?...

CLA Radio 01/16/15: Songs About Texas

CLA Radio 01/09/15: Ray

Posted by on Jan 10, 2015 in Conservative LA Radio, For Tribbles, Radio | 0 comments

The next ConservativeLA Radio show (on Duane FM in the Hughniverse, Friday night, 01/09/15, 7:00 Pacific/10:00 Eastern) will concern itself with the Genius Of Soul, Ray Charles. The show has two sources: Pure Genius: The Complete Atlantic Recordings 1952-1959, an incredible eight disc box set released in 2005; and the first episode from the 2005 BBC documentary series Soul Deep. The show is not intended to be comprehensive, chronological, or any suchlike. If anything, it is intended to point out just how awesome the material (from my favorite era of Ray’s music, the Atlantic years) on Pure Genius is. The Spotify set list is here (does not include documentary...
