The best way to sum up the Vice Presidential debate is to simply say that Vice President Biden had an epic meltdown. It was the first time in American history that a sitting Vice President went down in flames on national television. Even as Chris Matthews and the rest of the gang at MSNBC go gaga over Biden’s performance, it was a disgrace to watch Biden.

VP Joe Biden

I can’t begin to describe how cringe-inducing it was that Biden interrupted Ryan a grand total of 82 times in the debate. It wasn’t just the fact Biden had that idiotic smirk on his face like he was the Cheshire Cat, it wasn’t just that he interrupted Ryan 82 times, he was lying through his teeth in the same manner that his boss did last week.

The first massive fail came within seconds when he took a question on Libya and used it to denounce Romney on Iraq and Afghanistan. He then made the completely fraudulent statement that the administration was not told that more security was needed at the consulate. In between Biden’s smirkfest, there was a cavalcade of lies and slander well-fitting for an elected Democrat. One of the biggest was his claim that we put two wars on a credit card and that he voted against them. In fact, he voted in favor of both wars and even was touting at one point the completely idiotic idea to partition Iraq.

In the grand scheme of things, Joe Biden came off as unglued and unhinged. Throughout the twitterverse, people were catching on that a meltdown was in the works. Sean Hannity tweeted “WHAT are you giggling at? This actually isn’t even funny anymore. I am legitimately concerned Biden is not OK”. One of my observations, “Joe Biden is imploding right in front of my eyes.” From Jonah Goldberg, “If Biden was advised to be angry at everything he doesn’t find hysterical, he’s executing perfectly.” And from Katie Pavlich, “Biden is actually being really disrespectful by laughing an snarking at Paul Ryan. Have some class, man.” These are just a few of the myriad examples from the observation of Biden’s meltdown.

All the while, Paul Ryan was calm, presidential, and deferential. Many on the Right think he was too deferential in light of Biden’s laughing out loud and continued disrespect. Many on the Left are cheering on Biden as if he said anything of substance. Biden was the stereotypical bully, something progressives claim to be against, and now they think it will carry them to victory. Remember Obama’s latest excuse for tanking in the first debate was that he was too polite. I guess they used Biden to make up for that performance, but they will end up turning a lot of people off.

The lasting memory of this debate will be of Biden as the unhinged loon who should be sent to Bellevue. But no one should be surprised by his behavior. This is how the left behaves: they are bullies and have no respect for their opposition. As the Wall Street Journal put it:

But this 90 minutes wasn’t about an exchange of ideas or a debate over policies. It was a Democratic show of contempt for the opposition, an attempt to claim by repetitive assertion that Messrs. Ryan and Romney are radicals who want to destroy “the middle class.”

Some of the post-debate analysis:

Brit Hume

Brit Hume of Fox News: “I thought it was rude and I have a feeling it will come across to a lot of people as rude. It looked like a cranky old man to some extent debating a polite young man.”

Gloria Borger of CNN: “He was condescending at times to Paul Ryan. I think I could have done with a lot less eye-rolling and chuckling on the part of Joe Biden.”

David Gregory of NBC: “Biden’s smile is out of control.”

Philip Klein of the Washington Examiner: “Biden’s strategy seems to be to laugh at Ryan constantly. Will it work to infantilize Ryan, or backfire like Gore sighing?”

Allahpundit over at Hot Air: “I expected “table-pounding atmospherics” from Biden but I didn’t expect him to act like a total jackhole for fully 90 minutes.”

This is all par for the course. The Left routinely portrays conservatives as evil as opposed to just wrong. To them, we are worse than al-Qaeda. They feel that they owe us no respect and that we should be shamed out of our positions because we are illegitimate. They go out of their way to bow and apologize to the Islamists and those who want to obliterate Western Civilization. But yet, they are not obliged to show any respect to political opponents. I hope that independents are taking notice of this behavior.

Anyone who is having second thoughts about Obama should re-watch the debate and take note of Biden’s behavior with this thought in mind; the Left doesn’t respect any difference in opinion. Biden behaved the way that Obama thinks he should have behaved last week. One last thing to remember, this behavior was merely cover for all the brazen lying he was engaging in. When people take time to chew on that, I think it will help the Romney/Ryan momentum and further sink Obama/Biden. Two debates so far: Romney and Ryan have come off presidential and calm, Obama came off as a lying weasel, and Biden came off as unglued.

Exit question: Which of those traits do you want from the leader of the free world?
