CLA Radio 08/16/13: Traveling Music

The next ConservativeLA Radio show (on Duane FM in the Hughniverse, Friday, 08/16, 7:00 Pacific/10:00 Eastern) will be a rerun of the Traveling Music edition (originally broadcast in early August of 2012), wherein we will hear music appropriate to Duane’s (return) trip to Germany. Since this is from back in the day when Duane and I were still working the bugs out of streaming these shows, there may be a few moments of silence now and again, after the shorter clips (the ones shorter than, say, 20 seconds). I can only hope that the Kraftwerk tune doesn’t get played...

Girls and guns.

Oh look, Piers Morgan is spewing his verbal diarrhea again.  Thankfully, A.W.R. Hawkins was there to smack down his weak argument. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ia5A6sMO2Tc Piers also lied about Virginia crime statistics.  This surprises no one.  But it does bring up a good topic of conversation. We never get to the point of discussing whether or not women should arm themselves if there is not a substantial group of female shooters out there asking for it. Our first job as gun owners is to tear down all of the fear and negative stereotypes that women have been deluged with prior to their first shooting experience.  I had an opportunity to do this last week. My 15-year-old niece wanted to tag along with me and my brother-in-law to the range.  My 19-year-old niece showed much less interest, but came along as well. Both had never been to a gun range.  After going over the basic gun safety rules and providing them with eye and ear protection, we handed them our Desert Eagles and waited for the screaming to start. Not really. Smith and Wesson Model 18,  .22 long rifle, six-shot revolver. Now, if your range has rental guns available, and you can get your hands on something like this, I highly recommend it.  I actually think my Ruger 10/22 rifle would be an even better choice. But like a dummy, I left all...

Newton’s third law of political momentum.

It is November of 2010.  Democrats are reeling.  The House of Representatives had been lost.  The super-majority in the Senate was lost. A loosely-tied group of organizers had out-organized the Organizer-In-Chief.  Democrats were not going to take this sitting down. Newton’s third law of motion states: “When one body exerts a force on a second body, the second body simultaneously exerts a force equal in magnitude and opposite in direction to that of the first body.” So Democrats got started using the tools available to them.  We know now that a number of prominent Democrats like Carl Levin had already begun pressuring government agencies to investigate those nefarious tea party groups.  A meme was already in place that equated tea party groups to militias hell bent on overthrowing the government.  Nothing could be further from the truth.  But the truth is irrelevant when the President’s agenda is in danger.  We now know that for a 27 month period, no tea-party-affilliated groups were granted tax-exempt status.  To an extent their strategy worked and is still working.  They took just enough wind out of the tea party’s sails to preserve the Democrat’s majority in the Senate and the President’s second term.  Job well done. They went back to the task of promoting their agenda.  After the 2012 elections, the right was dispirited.  We believed that we had the momentum and we...

Don’t Mess With Texas

Everything is bigger in Texas– except the government, unemployment rate, and taxes. The state has no personal income tax, comparatively few regulations on business, and the dollar in general just seems to go a little farther. In contrast from the days of the Dust Bowl, people are fleeing the bankrupt cities of California for the hopes of a fresh start in Texas. With so many great things going for the state, who would really want things to change? Enter the Democratic Party. Texas has been seen as the Republican Party’s safety net. As the largest Republican controlled state and with...

The Servant and the Master

There once was a servant who had a master. The master was kind and spent his days caring for his business. The master told his servant, “I’m a busy man. I do not need you to take care of me, but to secure the fence, the property, and the road; so that I may conduct business and care for my family.” The servant vowed to do this for a simple sum. All was well, until one day the servant said, “Master, to maintain the grounds I must manage the smithy, for without adequate smithery, the grounds will not be safe.” The...
