Review: Laserlyte Trigger Tyme pistol and Laser Trainer

Review: Laserlyte Trigger Tyme pistol and Laser Trainer

If you are like a lot of suburban or urban gun-owners, you know that getting to the range for practice can be a chore.  Your busy life sometimes makes it difficult. And until recently, ammunition prices have discouraged you even further.  But you know you need to practice basic firearm fundamentals like muzzle discipline, grip, presentation, sight-alignment, trigger-squeeze, and training your dominant eye. Fortunately, you can do that in the comfort of your own home without frightening your neighbors with the sounds of gunfire and the sight of muzzle flashes. Enter the LaserLyte Trigger Tyme Training Pistol (TTTP). LaserLyte makes a full line of training aids for many different firearms.  But let’s start with something really basic.  The TTTP costs a measly $40. It’s about the size of a Glock 19 or similar striker-fired pistol.  If you have smaller hands or prefer training with a compact pistol, LaserLyte makes a compact model as well. The beauty of this training pistol is that, unlike other “blue gun” training aids, this...

The Justification for Justifiable Homicide

The Justification for Justifiable Homicide

The Second Amendment guarantees law abiding, American citizens the right to self-defence against criminals and tyrannical government…something rugged, individualist patriots fully understand. However, squeamish types wring their hands at the mere mention of private citizens using deadly force to defend themselves or others! Such panty waisted prognosticators are a felon’s best bet for psychologically disarmed victims — prey he can easily harm or kill with no resistance. A peek at the 2012 FBI Crime In The United States report reveals a whopping 14,827 homicides committed by criminals, not often invoked by vigilantes (who don’t exist). Citizens committed 310 justifiable (righteous) homicides, against felons engaged in yet another felony before their evil careers were halted. Felons with guns are the problem, not homeowners or others forced to use deadly force or be killed. Decent folks don’t want to kill anyone, unlike their attackers! They take pains to avoid confrontations and are literally dragged into them against their will! It’s shameful how violent felons enjoy rabid cheerleading in civil rights, clergy...

Peruta v. San Diego: How did we get here?

Peruta v. San Diego: How did we get here?

Today’s decision by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in the Peruta v. San Diego case may become a watershed moment for concealed carry advocates in the Golden State.   Progressive politicians here are now scrambling to select the correct course of action that will allow them to preserve what has been one of the most anti-gun bureaucracies in the country. But the truth is, the predicament they have found themselves in is entirely of their own making. God bless our idiot state legislators in California who, in their infinite wisdom, decided to outlaw unloaded open-carry of firearms because a few open-carry advocates basically baited them into doing so. Yes, that is where the Peruta case starts. A few years ago, some second amendment supporters started appearing in public, open-carrying unloaded firearms. Why unloaded? Because loaded open-carry of firearms had been outlawed by Ronald Reagan back in the 1960’s after some radical Black Panthers entered the state capitol with loaded rifles. I’m fairly certain that this small group of...

SHOTshow Report: Day 1

SHOTshow Report: Day 1

This is my fourth SHOTshow and for the first time I attended “range day.”     I mean, what’s the point of attending the worlds largest shooting, outdoor, and hunting trade show if you can’t fire some weapons? Actually, I had the opportunity to go to the range last year.  But it was 36 degrees outside with about a 25 mph wind all day so nobody wanted to be out there. This year the weather was very agreeable: it was sunny and in the mid 60’s all day. For those who are not familiar, SHOTshow is the biggest firearms-related trade show in the United States. It is massive. Every firearm, ammunition, and outdoor gear vendor attends. It encompasses the entire Sands Convention Center in Las Vegas and spills over into the meeting rooms of the Venetian Casino and Resort.  If you’re looking for something remotely related to shooting or hunting and you are not working on classified military contracts, it’s probably at SHOTshow. Range day is held on Monday....

Gear Review: AR-15 bolt cleaners

Gear Review: AR-15 bolt cleaners

There are a lot of new owners of modern sporting rifles based on the AR-15 design out there.     Some people I know have purchased these rifles sight unseen.  Normally you wouldn’t recommend someone do this. But when you’re talking about AR-15s, there isn’t much risk in buying something that the military and police use (in modified form). If you are unfamiliar with the rifle, the first time you handle one it is a bit of a departure from standard rifle designs. This is a good thing. The rifle breaks down easily, making all of the internal parts accessible for cleaning. The down side is the uniqueness of the parts themselves, most notably the bolt carrier assembly and bolt itself. If you’re like me, you already had gun cleaning tools prior to purchasing your AR-style rifle. Most of these are useless when attempting to clean your AR bolt carrier and bolt. Fortunately, a couple of companies have stepped up to make cleaning your bolt carrier easier. The first...

Girls and guns.

Girls and guns.

Oh look, Piers Morgan is spewing his verbal diarrhea again.  Thankfully, A.W.R. Hawkins was there to smack down his weak argument. Piers also lied about Virginia crime statistics.  This surprises no one.  But it does bring up a good topic of conversation. We never get to the point of discussing whether or not women should arm themselves if there is not a substantial group of female shooters out there asking for it. Our first job as gun owners is to tear down all of the fear and negative stereotypes that women have been deluged with prior to their first shooting experience.  I had an opportunity to do this last week. My 15-year-old niece wanted to tag along with me and my brother-in-law to the range.  My 19-year-old niece showed much less interest, but came along as well. Both had never been to a gun range.  After going over the basic gun safety rules and providing them with eye and ear protection, we handed them our Desert Eagles and waited...
