Trump Makes A Deal, On Abortion

Trump Makes A Deal, On Abortion

It’s election season, and during election season discussions frequently pop up in the media about party rules, party platforms, and hot-button issues. One of the party platforms that has remained unchanged on Republican side for decades is the issue of life and abortion. Republicans have historically been solidly opposed to abortion in all cases. They believe that a baby in the womb is deserving of an equal share of the rights and protections of the mother carrying it, because it is a human life. The pro-life movement believes it occupies the moral high-ground because they are protecting the most vulnerable people in our society. Democrats have historically opposed all restrictions on abortion since it was deemed a right by the Supreme Court. They believe that a woman’s right to control her body supersedes the rights of the baby inside her, which they do not consider to be a human being until it is delivered and in some cases accepted into society. The pro-abortion movement believes they hold the...

Obama Plans Revenge on Israel

Obama Plans Revenge on Israel

The landslide victory of Benjamin Netanyahu in Israel’s elections has left Comrade Obama in a venomous rage. Obama is so enraged that his efforts to undermine Netanyahu’s reelection at taxpayer expense backfired, that he now wants to use the United Nations to force Israel to sign on to its own demise. The only reason Obama wanted to see Netanyahu lose was because Netanyahu was telling the world about Obama’s eagerness to sign on to a nuclear deal with Iran. Netanyahu knows that any deal with Iran will allow them to nuke up, which means curtains for the Jewish state. Netanyahu actually had the nerve to defy Obama’s desperate efforts to deal with the world’s leading state sponsor of terror and Obama wants to force Bibi and his nation to pay the price. Obama has sided with Iran and is willing to jeopardize the survival of Israel and the rest of the world to get a deal. The president is also indignant that people would challenge his rush to a bad deal and...

How to use your own e-mail account and fool (most) everybody into thinking you are complying with company/government policy

How to use your own e-mail account and fool (most) everybody into thinking you are complying with company/government policy

As a person who managed e-mail servers on multiple platforms for more than 15 years, I have become accustomed to hearing from end-users that they don’t like the systems I have provided.   Some people just grumble. Others actively look for ways to avoid using it. Usually it involves the end-user putting their own convenience over conformity. So when the revelations about Hillary Clinton rolling her own mail server and domain surfaced, I was not surprised at all. The only thing that surprised me is the lengths she went to hide her system from oversight. In the corporate world, I witnessed employees doing what Hillary did every day. And despite company policies, you could get away with whatever you wanted as long as you had the juice. When Blackberrys fell out of favor, many people in my company bought iPhones and iPads and brought them to work. The IT department got numerous requests to connect them to the corporate mail system. And while there were solutions for connecting iPhones,...

God and Limited Government

God and Limited Government

Part of making a coherent case for constitutional government involves sifting through parades of burning straw men.   When Nick Gillespie published a piece at Reason magazine, a magazine that sometimes fails to live up to its name, about Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal’s call for America to turn back to God, I could see the straw men from a mile away. Gillespie asserts that Jindal wants to mix politics and religion and that has to be bad. Now he doesn’t lose as many points as a leftist would because he didn’t pull out the First Amendment canard. But he’s got enough errors in logic that it cannot go unanswered. The first problem with Gillespie’s screed is the inherent assumption that our nation turning to God and the cause of limited government are mutually exclusive. Gillespie writes: No, it’s not time to “turn back to God,” especially when it comes to politics and public policy. What ails the government is not a deficit of religiosity but a nearly complete failure to...

Expert at West Point Think Tank Warns of the “Violent Far-Right”

Expert at West Point Think Tank Warns of the “Violent Far-Right”

West Point has a fine and storied tradition: President Thomas Jefferson signed legislation establishing the military academy in 1802.    The same Thomas Jefferson who often repeated the John Bradshaw quote: Rebellion to tyrants is obedience to God. And the same Thomas Jefferson who wrote: When injustice becomes law, resistance becomes duty. West Point created the Combating Terrorism Center after the events of 9/11, in an effort to prepare cadets for the new and dangerous environment of suicidal enemies and thwart future attacks. Sounds good and noble, and in the context of West Point should be well-founded. However, Dr. Arie Perliger, one of the Center’s experts, published a study in November titled Challengers from the Sidelines: Understanding America’s Violent Far-Right. There is something tremendously unsettling about seeing the words “America’s Violent Far-Right” in the title. In Challengers, Perliger attempts to sideline West Point’s time-honored motto: Duty, Honor, Country. Dr. Perliger’s bio boasts, “…In the past decade Dr. Perliger has studied extensively issues related to Terrorism and Political Violence, Politics of Security, Politics of the...

What Does the Battle for House Speaker Tell Us?

What Does the Battle for House Speaker Tell Us?

As I write this, we are hours away from the vote for House Speaker. Right now, opponents of current Speaker John Boehner are trying to whip enough people (29) to deny him the job on the first ballot. There are at least 20 votes against him so far as of this writing. Some sources are saying over 20 voting against Boehner… Boehner whipping hard … — Matthew Boyle (@mboyle1) January 6, 2015 The laundry list of reasons to get rid of Boehner is a mile wide, and that’s being generous. The popular opinion of the pundit class is that Boehner survives again like he did 2 years ago when only 9 members voted against him. This brings up an important question: is the GOP really as committed to fighting the Democrats as they claim or are they just stringing us along? We as conservatives who vote for the Republican Party have to be prepared for the possibility that we’re just being strung along and that the appearance of opposition...
