CLA Radio 05/30/14: Repeat of CLA Radio #27 from October 2012

CLA Radio 05/30/14: Repeat of CLA Radio #27 from October 2012

The upcoming ConservativeLA Radio show (on Duane FM in the Hughniverse, Friday, 5/30/14, 7:00 Pacific/10:00 Eastern) will be a repeat of the Empty Chair edition originally broadcast in October 2012. Gary Eaton of The Army You Have, who will be busy performing live the night this show is rebroadcast, provides the introduction to an otherwise narrator-less show. The show was predicated on the belief that Barack Obama would be a one-termer. OK, so that didn’t work out. Hopefully the show will be entertaining in spite of subsequent events. Spoiler set list: Mystery Guest: Program Intro John Lennon: Imagine Sound Clip: The Planet Began To Heal Living Colour: Cult Of Personality Sound Clip: Pay My Mortgage Joe Jackson: Amateur Hour Sound Clip: Apology Tours Brenda Lee: I’m Sorry Sound Clip: One-Term Proposition Big Bill Broonzy: Unemployment Stomp Sound Clip: President Joe Biden Sex Pistols: Pretty Vacant Sound Clip: Obama Chant Ashford & Simpson: Solid As Barack Sound Clip: Necessarily Skyrocket Chris Knight: Send A Boat Sound Clip: The Planet Began To Heal Donny Osmond: Go Away Little Girl Sound Clip: One-Term Proposition New Lost City Ramblers: How Can A Poor Man Stand Such Times And Live? The Narcissistic Society: It’s All About Me

The Narcissistic Society: It’s All About Me

Last weekend, two events illustrated the gulf between where America has been, and where it is heading.   The contrast between solemn Memorial Day celebrations and the bloody outrage of Elliot Rodger’s murders clearly show the line between those who live for others and those who are all about themselves. We still have many Americans, some in uniform and some not, who daily demonstrate that there are things more important than their comfort, wealth or acclaim. Teachers, first responders, military members, and parents actively do those things which help others while denying their own safety or gratification. Unfortunately, we are becoming a country where narcissism is the primary driver and goal. Years ago, when you asked a child what they wanted to be, they would say something like doctor, lawyer, astronaut, teacher, etc. Nowadays, children often answer “famous.” To reach that goal, people are willing to do absolutely anything. When you become a perennial magazine cover girl based on having released a self-filmed amateur porn film, or you get...

Jamelle Bouie and Moronic Racism Definitions

Jamelle Bouie and Moronic Racism Definitions

There are fewer terms in the English language that are as often used and misused as “racism.”   Racism is a word that the progressives frequently use not to describe actual behavior and attitudes, but rather, they use it to drive false narratives and cow people into silence as they remake society in their own fascist image. Enter Jamelle Bouie of Slate magazine (don’t ask why I was reading Slate) with a piece entitled “Why Do Millennials Not Understand Racism?” I was prepared for complete drivel and intellectual laziness and Mr. Bouie did not disappoint. Let’s start with Bouie’s definition of racism (emphasis mine): The problem is that racism isn’t reducible to “different treatment.” Since if it is, measures to ameliorate racial inequality—like the Voting Rights Act—would be as “racist” as the policies that necessitated them. No, racism is better understood as white supremacy—anything that furthers a broad hierarchy of racist inequity, where whites possess the greatest share of power, respect, and resources, and blacks the least. From this...

Corporal Storck Remembers Pearl Harbor

Corporal Storck Remembers Pearl Harbor

Maurice A. Storck endured and survived the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, December 7th, 1941.   Maurice is not just a survivor – he’s a thriver who, amazingly, still serves his country today. Recently, while preparing to attend the dedication of the new World War II Memorial in Phoenix, I had the honor and pleasure of interviewing Mr. Storck. I thought I was going to write up a post for Pearl Harbor Day, a great opportunity to tell a few stories about the heroism of my parents’ generation: how they faced down fascism from all sides, how they prevailed to preserve Freedom for the generations that followed. But after interviewing Mr. Storck, I found myself awe-struck into silence. What Abraham Lincoln said at Gettysburg applies equally well here: The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here....
