Dear School: ‘David’ Is Not a Threat

Since the tragedy of Sandy Hook, panicked administrators have been struggling with school policy, trying to address parental concerns, and trying to prevent something like that from happening at their school.   The problem, though, is that Sandy Hook was not a failure of school policy or law enforcement. Sick people are unpredictable. Even trying to help them or stop them can set them off. Ironically, in this case, the decision to intervene may have triggered the decision to kill. Nevertheless, some administrations seem to be overreacting with panicked attempts to “do something.” Lately, I have seen some...

An Obama Declaration of Dependence

When in the course of humanist events it becomes desirable for most people to eschew the personal bonds which have connected them with each other, and to assume that the powers of the earth owe them a separate and equal portion to which the laws of nature …entitle them, a disdainful disregard toward the experience of mankind requires that we should demagogue the rationalizations which impel us to this decimation. We declare these talking-points to be politically correct – that some groups should be considered more equal than others; that they should be endowed by their government...

New Music: Antisleep Vol. 3

This week, hacker rocker / basement dweller / handsome man, Blue Stahli released his new album, Antisleep Volume 3. For those of you who find yourselves unfamiliar with Blue Stahli, he is a gifted musician based in Michigan and you’ve likely heard his music in the background of shows like America’s Next Top Model and The Big Bang Theory as well as in trailers for The Expendables 2, Jonah Hex, Sucker Punch, and a host of others. He has been writing/producing excellent music for over 10 years and wows Facebook/Twitter followers with an often disturbing, if not witty sense...

Be your own first responder.

Got an e-mail from the California Rifle and Pistol Association with this in the subject line.   But I’ve seen it several places lately so I can’t give them all the credit.  It’s a good premise to expound upon and another word of caution regarding media bias. We love our first-responders.  We have elevated their status to where we now frequently lump them in with our military forces.  But there is a big difference between a soldier and a paramedic.  You and I can’t do what the military does.  The military has a specific duty outlined in...

“Groupon”, translated into Norwegian, is “Quisling”

Or so it would seem after Groupon canceled existing offers for gun safety and concealed carry training that were already under contract and being purchased by Groupon members. I saw this on Twitter over the weekend, and immediately shot (heh … see what I did there?) a cancellation request of my Groupon account to their customer service unit. The reply I received shows just how cowardly and craven this company has become in the face of pressure: Gun-related deals, including shooting ranges, conceal-and-carry, and clay shooting, are on hiatus as we review our internal policies for the...
